Launching the Talking Trees Series

Master bowmaker and ecologist Marco Raposo and RAIN Director Danny Diskin discuss the importance of Pernambuco.

Trees of Music has launched its new series Talking Trees! In this series, RAIN Director Danny gets to know some of the most fascinating voices in music whose art centres on the use of trees to create the instruments they use.

In the episode above, Danny chats to Marco Raposo in Brazil who is leading the way in regenerating the Atlantic Forest and Pernambuco tree populations. Marco has worked for 20 years to restore the Pernambuco tree, of which there only 1,500 left in the wild. He guides us through what it takes to grow this rare and precious tree, and talks us through the process of making violin bows.
